Myceliating Human: Embracing Fungal Intelligence

A living digital canvas transcends spatial limits, evolving as a dynamic, lawless organism. Much like fungal interconnectedness, these practices encourage beyond human-centric thinking.

Fungal mycelia exhibit decision-making and alter their patterns in response to interactions with other organisms. This shows how a gathering can become a “happening,” greater than the sum of its parts, through dynamic interactions and collective adaptation.

Tasked with collaborating in an international group to explore the relationship between the kingdom of fungi and humanity, Gulliver's group pursued a more conceptual and abstract approach.

Rather than developing a product with a fungal structure as a principal component, they deconstructed the meaning of mycelium and investigated how fungi communicate, translate, evolve, and mutate. Their research included decentering the human perspective and exploring media that would help them create a project using collective, non-verbal methods to challenge anthropocentric views and illustrate a new mode of connection inspired by the sentience and intelligence of mycelium.
