Lovers is a visualization of my experiences with past relationships, surrounding the theme of growth and accountability. I have been dishonest to keep the calm, but it has caused more damage than good. After a very tough conversation with a past girlfriend, I have taken accountability for my lying habit, and now live an honest life no matter the shame or unpleasantries that accompany it.
To express this pilgrimage of introspection, I have utilised themes that remind me of this journey. The fog represents the opacity of my mind, and how I would create these fantasies in my head that what I was doing didn’t affect anyone. I made the location a garden, as for some reason, every one of these fundamental interactions were in a garden or public park. Elements of contrast are used as guidance – the silhouette of the gazebo, and the warmer lights of the lampposts act as semantic contextual clues to guide the user to the culmination. An expansive, interconnected space with multiple pathways represents the multifaceted nature of self-reflection, acknowledging that there is no singular 'right' path.
The ambiance of this artwork is designed to envelop the viewer, allowing them to wander through the garden with their thoughts. The interactions between the visages within the piece are intended to provoke introspection in the viewer, encouraging them to consider their own choices, reflect on their personal journey, and ultimately ponder their decisions in life. While I do not aim to sermonize about honesty, I do seek to prompt and caution the viewer toward self-awareness.
